SPECIALTY WORKERS’ COMPENSATION FOR CONTRACTORS
Workers comp for plumbers, priced by people who write contractors all day.
We are a licensed insurance agency placing workers compensation on A− rated Clear Spring paper through Vesper Risk. Nine questions, no application to fill out, and under $50,000 in premium we do not need your loss runs. You will have an indication in one to two business days.
Licensed in Arizona and Utah. We write payroll — not certificate-only policies.
What happens after you answer nine questions
01
You answer nine questions.
Plain English. No ACORD form, no insurance vocabulary. Two minutes.
02
A licensed underwriter prices it.
Not an algorithm handing you a number. A person who prices contractor comp for a living.
03
A licensed principal reviews and signs it.
Nothing reaches you until it has been reviewed and signed by a licensed principal of this agency.
04
You get your indication in 1–2 business days.
You hold it next to your renewal. If the numbers change, we reissue it.
HOW IT WORKS
01
No loss runs under $50K
Mod at 1.30 or under and premium under $50,000: we do not ask for loss runs. You never have to tell your current agent you are shopping.
02
No mod maximum
Above 1.30 there is a supplemental path, not a decline. High mod is a conversation with a specialist.
03
1–2 business days
Complete submissions get an indication inside two business days. We publish the standard and we hold it.
04
A− rated paper
Clear Spring Property and Casualty Group, rated A− (Excellent) by A.M. Best. Direct-billed.
05
Actuary-led underwriting
Two Fellows of the Casualty Actuarial Society run the book. Priced by people who do this for a living.
06
Contractors are the book
Plumbing, HVAC, electrical, contracting. Not clerical accounts with a contractor bolted on the side.
Who we write
Plumbing contractors with W-2 payroll in Arizona and Utah. We are a contractor-focused agency and workers compensation is the only thing we do. We do not write certificate-only or owner-only policies. If you have no employees and you need a certificate of insurance for a general contractor, we cannot help — and we would rather tell you that now than waste your afternoon.
Why plumbers end up overpaying
Your agent has four comp markets.
A typical independent agency has a handful of workers compensation appointments. None of them is a contractor-only shop. Your 5183 gets priced next to a florist and a law firm. The rate is the rate they can get, not the rate a contractor book can support.
Shopping normally means tipping him off.
The usual way to check your number is to ask your agent to market the account — or to let a new agent pull loss runs, which notifies the incumbent. You should not have to pick a fight to find out if you are overpaying. Under $50,000 in premium with a mod of 1.30 or under, we do not need your loss runs.
One bad year should not end the conversation.
A lot of markets treat a 1.30-plus mod as a decline. We do not. Above 1.30 there is a supplemental path. High mod is a conversation with a specialist, not a form letter.
